About the School

Oak Grove Central is one of DeSoto County's outstanding schools located in the heart of Hernando, MS.  It is an intermediate school with over 600 intelligent 4th and 5th grade students.  We have EXCELLENT teachers who go above and beyond for each student in our school.

While this mission statement focuses on our students, it also applies to our entire Oak Grove Central community.

Oak Grove Central strives to be an integral part of the community, and to work with all community members. We have an assigned School Resource Officer to help develop relationships with our staff and students as well as ensure safety and security.

The purpose of Oak Grove Central Elementary School is to create a nurturing environment in which children become life-long learners who reach their greatest potential. We offer morning and after-school tutoring for students in needs. Community tutoring is also promoted through West End ministries.   Motivational speakers and special programming such as an anti bullying campaign are also offer throughout the year. The school community also participates in Tiger Pride, a school wide positive behavior plan. This plan rewards students and teaches that consequences are not always negative. It also contributes to create a sense of community and ownership within the school.

We offer a variety of extra curricular activities at O.G.C.E. Students can participate in monthly clubs such as: exercise, book, drama, science, and math club. We also hold elections and tryouts for select clubs including Newspaper, Student Council, and Chess team. All students are eligible to participate in the after-school opportunities.

O.G.C.E. offers daily breakfast for all students. We are also partnered with local churches and civic organizations to offer Blessings in a Backpack program and PALS, which supplies needy students with clothing and weekend/holiday foods.
